Good afternoon, lovely people! I hope you are having a great day! So, as I stated in my last blog, human trafficking doesn’t just happen “over there” in other countries. To bring this point home, I want to share with you some facts about human trafficking right here in North Carolina. Our home! 

This is just since June of this year. I got these statistics from Nationalhumantraffickingresourcecenter.org and the  Polaris project.

Since June of this year in North Carolina there were 36 sex trafficking cases reported, 11 labor trafficking reported and 5 not specified that were reported for a total of 52 cases just since June. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but first of all, one person being forced to have sex with several men a night against their will is too many and secondly, please keep in mind, these are REPORTED cases, which doesn’t account for the majority of cases that go undetected each year. Of these 52 cases, 43 were female and 8 were male. 33 were adults and 19 were minors…CHILDREN! Think about this, over half the trafficking cases reported were for the purposes of sex and over half those trafficked were children. 

Charlotte as the 6th largest metropolitan area and NC among the top 10 states in the nation for human trafficking violations.

I read that children as young as 9 were taken and expected to have sex with up to 12 men a night. It’s easy to see why I’m so passionate to eradicate this cancer off the face of this earth. So, what can you and I do? I’ve listed some great non profit organizations you can get involved in and some other resources.
