Human trafficking post

So, a friend of mine shared a story on my Facebook page about a girl who was 21 years old but had the mental capacity  of a 7 or 8 year old who was kidnapped by a trafficker and shown how to do sex acts. She didn’t even know what a sex act was. She was forced to do sex acts for fast food and candy. She was forced to give whatever money she made to him and she was “being prepared” for the upcoming super bowl. But, when she started having seizures, she became too much for the pimp and he dumped her off, where she was raped. A Good Samaritan found her and took her to the hospital and she is getting help. They are still looking for the pimp. This happens a lot more than you think at the super bowl and at other sporting events. But this woman’s story in particular infuriates me to my very core! I am weeping right now! It’s wrong when it happens to anyone, especially a child, but how could you take a woman that you know has diminished capacity and target her like this and degrade her like an animal?! It takes a special kind of low. This story infuriates me, but it also pushes me that much more to want to be an advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. I would love to be an advocate for women who are disabled and at a greater risk of being trafficked. I would love to be an advocate for children who are at a greater risk for being trafficked. If that’s not enough, I’d love to be an advocate of any of those who have been trafficked and need help getting the assistance they need. If anyone knows of any training or opportunities or if you or someone you know want to learn more about trafficking, please let me know. I am an ambassador for shared hope international. Knowledge is power and I’d rather take as much power out of the traffickers’ hands as I can.  Thank you for listening!
